SPECTRUM NEWS VIDEO: "Nick’s Fight to Be Healed" is a local organization supporting families battling cancer. They offer services like therapy dogs, yoga classes and provide items to help families in hospitals. Terry Stackhouse introduces us to one brave young man who was honored at the group's annual 5k race this weekend.
Nick’s Fight donates $40,000 to The Melodies Center’s child life specialist fund for the 7th year in a row. Since 2009 $320,000 has been donated to this fund which is vital to keep this important position available to kids battling cancer. To date Nick’s Fight has donated over $450,000 to families with children battling cancer and The Melodies Center to support different services that reduce emotional and financial stress.
CLIFTON PARK -- September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Hundreds gathered Sunday in Clifton Park for the eighth annual Nick's Run To Be Healed event.
In addition to the big race, there was a 5K walk, a carnival, and plenty of activities for kids.
The run was started in memory of Nick Cammarata, who was 13 years old when he passed away in October 2008 after a battle with leukemia.
“We wanted to do something in his name, because Nick was always very giving,” said Janine Cammarata. “We found that there was a lot of services that could have made his life easier, and our lives easier, so we give back in order to heal and help others.”
All of the money raised Sunday goes to benefit Nick's Fight To Be Healed Foundation, which combats childhood cancer.
Janine Cammarata and George Sisco join Dan to talk about the 2017 edition of Nick's Run to be Healed, a day's worth of events - all centering around a 5K race - that raise money to fight childhood cancer.

On Sunday, March 19, Nick’s Round Table’s fundraising chair, Sarah Collins, organized a fundraiser at Smashburgers in Clifton Park. She and other members worked hard to spread the word. Regan, who is currently battling cancer and Abby, who is done with her treatment joined Nick’s Fight to be Healed Foundation for their first fundraiser at Smashburger’s in Clifton Park. This was the first time Abby ever had a burger, and it would appear that the Smashburger Kids’ meal was a success!
167 people joined us during this fundraiser. Smashburger donated $2 for every person who ordered an entree or kids’ meal. As a benefit they had a 1/2 off milkshake special and 71 people took advantage of it! I heard they are the best in the area!
Thank you to Leo and Sue Butera for your support and donating $334 to Nick’s Round Table that will be used to support local children battling cancer! Thanks to everyone who came out to eat!
